Behind the scenes
Much like its namesake, Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Henry Lionel Galway, a former governor of South Australia, this Shiraz is open, frank and always exceeds the expectations of red wine-drinkers. The grapes are sourced from a range of terroirs in vineyards across the Barossa region of South Australia – some are grown in sandy soils, some in red-clay earth – but each one adds character to the vintage. The result is a bright ruby-coloured wine with crimson hues that smells of pepper, blackberry, chocolate mocha and vanilla, with hints of liquorice and violets. The palate is savoury, with a gentle sweetness of plums and spice that leads onto soft tannins.
